MICHAEL POSSERT JR.

Stop-Motion Fabricator, Special Effects Modelmaker

If you’re like us (and we know you are) you’ll want to ask a hundred questions of first-time guest Michael Possert Jr. His credits are lengthy and include dozens of fantastic films. Read on and hear about Michael in his own words:

“My passion to convey ideas and storytelling through visual and handmade means started at the age of five when I made my first model kit, a battleship. Once finished, I promptly took the ship to a lake and sank it. At age eight, I started using models, miniature sets and simple visual effects in Super-8 movies I made with the neighborhood kids.  A few years later, I helped my father set up a work shop in the garage – my first studio.

“After finishing college with a film degree I pursued visual effects for motion pictures in Los Angeles. While working on a wide range of movie projects, I have been exposed to many materials and techniques in the art and craft of fabrication of miniatures, props and sets. I have worked with a large and diverse number of talented artists over my thirty year career and have absorbed as much information as I can from them.

“Eventually this has led to stop motion animation work at Laika Studios. At Laika I headed the Model Shop for the movies ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls. Other projects I have worked on include:  The Rocketeer, Apollo 13, Terminator 2, Alien 3 and the first X-Files movie.”

Let’s give Michael a warm welcome to the WonderFest family!
