Learn modeling techniques from other great modelers!

WonderFest continues our commitment to the art of model making with an expanded demo lineup! Talks will last from 30 minutes to an hour, (or even two) and are planned to focus on major modeling topics and skills demonstrations. Some will allow the viewers to try the techniques shown.


We are again using VIDEO ASSIST, ensuring EVERYONE gets a great view of the work being done!

Working with Transparents | Rick Cantu
Our program kicks off this year with acclaimed painter and writer Rick Cantu in his first presentation at Wonderfest – He shows that oh-so-subtle, and oh-so-easy application of transparent media that turns your kit from ordinary to sublime! Get your modeling jones started right with Rick – The video assist will make viewing this presentation easy to see from any seat in the room!

Colour Theory | Jesse Garcia with his Paint Posse
We bring back the wildly popular program this year for those who may have missed it, or are once again needing to know what to do when you have to highlight red or how to successfully shade with colours you never dreamed of using – Jesse brings his Paint Posse, the awesome Jim Capone to help him wrangle the colour wheel and help all of us chromatically challenged to make our kits come to life! Come early – this will get crowded quick.

Beginning Resin | Tom Grossman
This will be a joint figure-hardware demonstration for those who are just getting into the Garage Kit hobby – All you wanted to know about how to work with those fragrant resin goodies you just spent a healthy amount of cash to acquire, and not turn it into a pile of goo, will be entertainingly handled by the Garage Kit impresario, Tom Grossman, who will show you how to tackle the goodies you snag in that  great big Dealer’s Room.

Perfect Seams | “Crazy Joe” Nejberger
Some of you creature modellers may get frustrated re-creating scale detail in your expensive dinosaur or Kaiju kit – CJ shows you how to tackle those pesky seams with a little help from a motor tool, AVES, and Repliscale. So easy, well, even a Geico Commercial could do it!

Installing Glass Eyes | Shane Foulkes
Start your Wonderfest Sunday with one of the best wildlife and dinosaur sculptors around , who shows you how to make your creatures come ALIVE will the EASY installation of relatively inexpensive glass eyes – Stick around for the whole presentation – Shane will have a surprise for a lucky attendee!

Glazing and Other Details | “Crazy Joe” Nejberger
You’ve heard the term “glazing” before – if you’ve never tried it on your work, you owe it to yourself to come in after Shane returns to the Dealers Room, and see how a simple technique practically paints an assembled kit for you! Other techniques may be covered as time permits.

Masking with Parafilm | Tom Grossman
Still struggling with Silly Putty and tape and other techniques? See how the space-age film makes a tedious task a snap! Tom and CJ will show you how to make crisp and neat masks for all of your super-duper hero figures, and more!

Flesh Tones  with the Airbrush | Jim Capone and Jessie Garcia
You’ve seen the amazing paintups in magazines, on the ‘Net, and if you were lucky enough, in PERSON – now, Jim takes Jesse as his posse THIS time, and shows you his remarkable technique in creating sublime, realistic skin tones. Come early for this one – this one is bound to get crowded, but again, the video assist will make this easily viewable from any seat in the room.

Digital 3D Sculpting | Bill Wieger
Coming back again this year is the wildly popular and cutting-edge demonstration of sculpting techniques ON THE COMPUTER – Professional sculptor and all-around-great –guy Bill Weiger shows you how it’s done – If you want a good seat, come early – this was crowded last year, and is sure to be again this year.
